Mallorca is a big island. In this travel itinerary we will focus on covering the maximum you can do in 4 days, using public transport. You can spend a week in Mallorca if you want to. But, let’s be honest we all have a job to get back to. So, let’s keep Mallorca only for a long weekend visit. We had complete 4 days in Malloca and we covered it all by public transport. If you plan to rent a car or bike then you can make this itinerary in 3 full days. So, without further waiting let’s get started.
Day 1 of Mallorca Travel itinerary
This will be your arrival day. Preferably try get a flight in the morning so that afternoon onwards you have sometime to explore. Being said that most of the flights from UK are in odd hours. So, you might need to book an extra night at the hotel to sleep. Our flight landed at 1 AM and we reached 3AM to our hotel. Unless you chose to stay in offbeat location, your hotels will have 24hr front desk. You will be either in Palma city or based out of Magaluf if want to take public transport. So you explore the city in the second half.
Day 2 is when the fun begins
It is better to leave as early as possible today cause we have to cover a lot. The good new is the route we are taking has frequent bus service. Start early preferably by 8.30AM in the day and take the bus to Valldemossa.
Valldemossa
Valldemossa is beautiful picturesque town, I have never seen like one. It is the yellow brick houses, with colourful windows and olive trees adds to the beauty of this town. It kind of. reminds me of yellow city of India Jaisalmer. You will easily spend 2hrs here, taking a walk around the town and the churches in the area. I recommend you to have breakfast here as you will more options than our next stop.
Deia
Deia is one of the most beautiful peaceful town I have ever seen. 20 mins bus ride from Valldemossa and hardly takes an hour to walk around the town and feel the vibe. Most of the time people skip it but we managed to make a stop here and see the town. It is beautiful and you won’t regret it. You can even chose to eat breakfast here instead of Valldemossa. Now, If you have a car then I highly recommend you visit Cala Deia and the small cafe there. We could not because, reaching by public transport is difficult. Either you need to walk for 45 mins or take a bus to next stop and walk for 35 mins one way. Incase you are staying in this region then definitely go for it.
Sa Colabra
From Deia take a bus directly to Port de Soller, please sit on the right side of the bus on entering for gorgeous views. Depending on what time you reach you can have lunch here or pack lunch to take it along with you in the ferry. Yes! you heard it right we are going to take a ferry to Sa Colabra Cove (1PM). You can find the schedule of the ferry here. Remember, the last ferry back to Port de Soller is at 4:45PM. Take that ferry and reach Port De Soller.
Port de Soller
Now we explore Port De Soller. This a port town, with a small beach where you can chill if you chose to or walk around the town. There are plenty of restaurants here to sit and have a meal. We will suggest you to take the vintage tram ride to town of Soller. Make sure to sit on the left hand side of the tram on entering. You can buy the tickets on board the schedule of the tram can be found here. Please note the last tram ride is at 8.30PM so do not miss that.
Soller
Soller town is famous for its Oranges so make sure you have orange juice here at the towns square. See the cathedral and explore the town. You can have dinner in this town before heading back to Palma. The last bus to Palma is at 11.30PM so plenty of time.
Pro Tip: As you will do lot of up and down in buses, make sure to tap you any bank credit or debit card. If travelling on a group(max 5) please swipe one card only for more discounts. Please use the same card in the next bus also as sometime if you are hopping multiple buses you get one or two free rides.
Day 3 exploring the coves
In our travel itinerary we highly recommend to visit Mallorca coves even if you have at least 2 days in the city. Who can deny the aqua blue colour water and pristine white sandy beaches isn’t it? This day you need to wake up early, pack some snacks and take the bus to S’Almonia. Now, If you have rented a vehicle just venture out to the south east side of the island beach hopping.
S’Almonia and Caló del Moro
You need to change 3 buses to reach S’Almonia. You need to change two buses and walk for 15 mins to reach here. Please remember to carry water and snacks as there are not a single shop around. The overall ride will take 2hrs from Palma city. You need to get down using steep stairs to the beach. Trust me it is gorgeous. You can chill here for sometime.
Then you walk towards Caló del Moro roughly 10mins. This is one of the most gorgeous beaches in entire Mallorca. It is a bit tricky to get down to the cove, so please carry proper shoes. Also remember the cove is small and can get crowded to find your spot in between the rocks, so better to reach as early as possible.
Cala Figuera & Cala Santanyi
Leave for Cala Figuera or Cala Santanyi from S’Almonia, you need to take two buses to reach. If you manage to get a taxi please take it as it will save ample of time and the beach is close by so it won’t cost you a bomb. But, problem is we saw nothing near S’Almonia. I will suggest visiting Cala. Figuera first and then take a taxi to Cala Santanyi. You can have a mean either the two beaches as few restaurants are the by the ocean.
Cala Santanyi is beautiful beach and great for swimming so I highly recommend you to take a dip here. Then you walk towards the Mirador de Es Pontàs from the beach not a lot of walk but the google maps take you to a road where it says resident only. You need to carry on and then check the satellite map in google to figure out the walkway to the arch. You are no way going to be trespassing in the residents there though at the entry you see a board but if you go ahead there is normal public walking path.
Take the last bus back to Palma from Cala Santanyi, the bus comes right in front of the beach.
Day 4 Shopping Palma City and Sunset at the Cape Formentor
You have to decide today what all you want to do, so choose from the list we are sharing in our Mallorca Travel Itinerary.
If you have arrived late on Day 1 and could not explore Palma city to the fullest then today is your day to explore the remaining part of the city. If you are into shopping then there are lot of handicrafts, bags, hats and summer dresses to pick from Mallorca.
You can also decide to go for a cruise to explore few more beaches and coves.
The sunset if interested keep for Cape Formentor Lighthouse, it takes 2 hrs 20 mins to reach here and the same time to get back to Palma, the last bus is at 9PM so plan accordingly (Refer Google Maps). If you are done exploring Palma you can get to Alcudia, see the town explore nearby beaches and then see the sunset and get back. We could not visit this place even as we could not do much on our Day 1.
Day 5 is fly back home from Palma. If you want you can cover the island in 3 days but no less than that. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions in our Mallorca Travel Itinerary.
Thanks for the details !
